Credits are counted when they are evidenced, and certificates take weeks to arrive. Logging on receipt means the total is never ahead of the paperwork.
Cycles differ, and some bodies require credits in specific categories as well as a total. The number that matters is the one in the handbook you are registered under, not a remembered figure.
Six credits with four months left is a plan; six credits with five weeks left is an expensive week. The running total is what turns the second case into the first.

A renewal is audited against evidence. An entry without a filed certificate is a note, not a credit, and the note column should say where the paperwork is.
Leaving the total until the final quarter
Late-cycle courses are the expensive ones and the least convenient. The whole value of the ledger is the shortfall warning at month six.
