Keep a Comp-Time Balance You Can Actually Check — Free
Time off in lieu only exists if the bank agrees. Accrue each overtime hour at your agreed ratio, subtract comp time taken, and watch a negative week while it is still small.
The proof surface
Pay-stub checks read overtime pay against the stub. This tracks a time bank instead of money: accrual at a ratio you were given, withdrawals, and the weekly change in balance.
Why the flat version breaks
Keeping the bank in your head
Two busy weeks erase an accurate memory of it.
Assuming the ratio is generous
Accrue at the agreed ratio, not the hoped one.
Treating the ledger as a legal claim
Lawfulness of comp time is outside the arithmetic.
How to work the time bank ledger
Some workplaces give one comp hour per overtime hour, some one and a half. The sample uses 1.5; the tool applies whatever your terms state and rejects anything above a ten-to-one ratio as a typo.
Four overtime hours at 1.5 accrue six hours; taking none that week moves the balance by plus six. Memory is the failure mode this ledger exists to remove.
Release week took five comp hours against three accrued — a minus-two week, flagged. A negative week is not an error by itself; a string of them means the bank is being spent faster than it fills.
Bring this balance to your manager or payroll while the weeks are recent. Whether comp time is permitted at all, and at what ratio, depends on your contract and local law — this tool computes, it does not entitle.
What the time bank ledger replaces
| Question | Before | Visible working |
|---|---|---|
| Keeping the bank in your head | Two busy weeks erase an accurate memory of it. | Log weeks as they happen |
| Assuming the ratio is generous | Accrue at the agreed ratio, not the hoped one. | Flag the withdrawals that overdraw |
| Treating the ledger as a legal claim | Lawfulness of comp time is outside the arithmetic. | Reconcile against the official record |

Input is processed locally and a draft is saved automatically in this browser profile when storage is available. Reset to sample clears that draft; Pro history has its own clear button. A state link encodes your inputs in its URL: share only non-sensitive rows. Browser history, clipboard and anyone receiving the link may retain it. Optional AI use below leaves this device; it is not required.
Time-bank arithmetic at a ratio you enter. Not legal or payroll advice; comp-time legality and rates depend on jurisdiction and contract, and the employer’s records govern.
Data note: Everything runs in this browser tab on the time bank ledger: your week | overtime hours worked | comp hours taken stays on this device, nothing is uploaded, and the reading is rebuilt only when you press run.
Go deeper: the companion app files the same reading as a bound register page
The article demo above runs without limits. The companion app keeps a local history, exports the rows as CSV, prints the time bank ledger reading, and holds your drafts on this device — one free run, then $ 4 one-time for the layer that keeps filing.
The time bank ledger reading is complete for free. The optional $4 layer adds print, row CSV and the last five local reading summaries; it does not add hidden answers. Checkout is not configured yet; the article demo remains unlimited.

What this is built on
- Method: Release week took five comp hours against three accrued — a minus-two week, flagged. A negative week is not an error by itself; a string of them means the bank is being spent faster than it fills.
- All sample records are invented examples. The app does not fetch measurements, policies, files or personal records.
- Google’s official pricing page, fetched 2026-09-28, lists free-tier access including AI Studio. Optional formatting only; limits and availability can change. Free-tier content may be used to improve products. Never paste private records there.
Before: Two busy weeks erase an accurate memory of it. After: the time bank ledger shows the working beside each named row so the reader can change the assumption and inspect the consequence.
Optional AI formatting, not calculation
For this time bank ledger, use the free AI Studio interface only if available to you, with no paid API key. Manual entry completes the same workflow for free. Supply only fictional or non-sensitive notes. Review its output against the source; never paste unresolved questions into the numeric rows.
Format my non-sensitive notes for a time bank ledger. Return plain rows only: week | overtime hours worked | comp hours taken. Preserve supplied quantities exactly. Do not guess missing values; list questions separately. Do not calculate or add advice. I will check every row before pasting into the local tool.
Accepted schema: week | overtime hours worked | comp hours taken. No AI response is executed as code.
