Compare Each Itinerary Day With Your Comfortable Walking Distance — Free
A city day that reads as three kilometres can behave like five with steps, hills and heat. Apply your own terrain adjustment and see which day exceeds the distance you find comfortable.
The proof surface
Walking-route ascent adds time for elevation gain. This compares planned daily distance, adjusted for terrain, with a comfort ceiling you choose, so an over-full day is visible before you go.
Why the flat version breaks
Using map distances as walked distances
Entrances, detours and indoor routes all add length.
Ignoring terrain
The same distance costs more on steps and hills.
Treating the total as fitness advice
Comfort is personal and can change from day to day.
How to work the walking comfort gauge
Enter the daily distance that leaves you comfortable at the end, not the most you have ever walked. The illustrative eight kilometres is a personal input, not a health target.
Steps, hills, heat, cobbles and crowds increase effort. A 20 percent adjustment turns six flat kilometres into 7.2 effective kilometres; the number is your judgement, not a measurement.
Each day shows how far the adjusted distance exceeds the ceiling, and the summary adds those excesses. The castle hill day is over by 2.35 kilometres in the sample.
Shift one sight to another day, use public transport for a long link or add a proper rest. Discuss any mobility or health limits with a clinician or an occupational therapist rather than pushing through.
What the walking comfort gauge replaces
| Question | Before | Visible working |
|---|---|---|
| Using map distances as walked distances | Entrances, detours and indoor routes all add length. | Add your own terrain adjustment |
| Ignoring terrain | The same distance costs more on steps and hills. | Read the excess, not the total |
| Treating the total as fitness advice | Comfort is personal and can change from day to day. | Move sights, not standards |
A local arithmetic aid replaces hand calculation, not expert review. No paid AI service is needed.

FIRST-LOAD
Research prototype — checkout unavailable. Input is processed locally and a draft is saved automatically in this browser profile when storage is available. Reset to sample clears that draft; Pro history has its own clear button. A state link encodes your inputs in its URL: share only non-sensitive rows. Browser history, clipboard and anyone receiving the link may retain it. Optional AI use below leaves this device; it is not required.
This is distance arithmetic from your own estimates and is not health, fitness or rehabilitation advice. If walking distance is affected by a health condition, plan with a clinician or mobility specialist, and stop when your body says so.
Data note: Everything runs in this browser tab on the walking comfort gauge: your itinerary day | planned kilometres | terrain adjustment percent stays on this device, nothing is uploaded, and the reading is rebuilt only when you press run.
Go deeper: the companion app files the same reading as a climbing rung ladder
The article demo above runs without limits. The companion app keeps a local history, exports the rows as CSV, prints the walking comfort gauge reading, and holds your drafts on this device — one complete free run; the proposed $4 one-time filing layer is not currently for sale.
The walking comfort gauge reading is complete for free. The optional $4 layer adds print, row CSV and the last five local reading summaries; it does not add hidden answers. Checkout is not configured yet; the article demo remains unlimited.

What this is built on
- Method: Each day shows how far the adjusted distance exceeds the ceiling, and the summary adds those excesses. The castle hill day is over by 2.35 kilometres in the sample.
- All sample records are invented examples. The app does not fetch measurements, policies, files or personal records.
- Google’s official pricing page, fetched 2026-09-29, lists free-tier access including AI Studio. Optional formatting only; limits and availability can change. Free-tier content may be used to improve products. Never paste private records there.
Before: Entrances, detours and indoor routes all add length. After: the walking comfort gauge shows the working beside each named row so the reader can change the assumption and inspect the consequence.
Optional AI formatting, not calculation
For this walking comfort gauge, use the free AI Studio interface only if available to you, with no paid API key. Manual entry completes the same workflow for free. Supply only fictional or non-sensitive notes. Review its output against the source; never paste unresolved questions into the numeric rows.
Format my non-sensitive notes for a walking comfort gauge. Return plain rows only: itinerary day | planned kilometres | terrain adjustment percent. Preserve supplied quantities exactly. Do not guess missing values; list questions separately. Do not calculate or add advice. I will check every row before pasting into the local tool.
Accepted schema: itinerary day | planned kilometres | terrain adjustment percent. No AI response is executed as code.
