final-grade scorecard

Calculate the Final-Exam Score Needed for Your Chosen Course Grade — Free

A current course percentage does not directly answer what the final assessment must earn when it has a different weight. Back out the score needed from points already earned and the final’s share.

The proof surface

Study-hour tools estimate available preparation time. This scorecard solves a grade equation using the weighted points and assessment weight you supply; it does not predict learning or exam performance.

Why the flat version breaks

Using a current average instead of weighted points

The equation needs the number of final-grade points already secured.

Leaving another assessment out

If more work remains, include it in a larger model or ask the instructor how weights are applied.

Treating the target as a promise

This is arithmetic under entered weights, not a prediction, grading appeal or guarantee.

How to work the final-grade scorecard

Read the syllabus weights

Enter weighted points already earned toward the final course grade, not an unweighted average. The score earned on an assessment is multiplied by its share of the final grade.

Enter the final assessment weight

Use a percent from 1 to 100. The model assumes the remaining course points come from this assessment alone.

Choose an overall target

Required final score = (target overall points − points already earned) ÷ final weight as a decimal. If the result is negative, zero additional points would meet the arithmetic target.

Read scores above 100 as infeasible under this model

A target may require more than the assessment can award. Confirm rounding, dropped work, extra credit and grade rules in the official syllabus or with the instructor.

FIRST-LOAD

Input is processed locally and a draft is saved automatically in this browser profile when storage is available. Reset to sample clears that draft; Pro history has its own clear button. A state link encodes your inputs in its URL: share only non-sensitive rows. Browser history, clipboard and anyone receiving the link may retain it. Optional AI use below leaves this device; it is not required.

Grade arithmetic only. It is not academic advising, a grade prediction, disability accommodation guidance or a guarantee of course completion. Check the current syllabus and ask the instructor or registrar about grading rules and support options.

Data note: Everything runs in this browser tab on the final-grade scorecard: your course | weighted points earned so far | final weight percent stays on this device, nothing is uploaded, and the reading is rebuilt only when you press run.

Go deeper: the companion app files the same reading as a plotted bar chart sheet

The article demo above runs without limits. The companion app keeps a local history, exports the rows as CSV, prints the final-grade scorecard reading, and holds your drafts on this device — one free run, then $ 4 one-time for the layer that keeps filing.

The final-grade scorecard reading is complete for free. The optional $4 layer adds print, row CSV and the last five local reading summaries; it does not add hidden answers. Checkout is not configured yet; the article demo remains unlimited.

What this is built on

Before: The equation needs the number of final-grade points already secured. After: the final-grade scorecard shows the working beside each named row so the reader can change the assumption and inspect the consequence.

Optional AI formatting, not calculation

For this final-grade scorecard, an external AI text tool may help format non-sensitive notes if you already use one. No AI service or account is required: manual entry completes the same free core calculation. Do not paste private or sensitive data. Review every value against the source before using it.

Format my non-sensitive notes for a final-grade scorecard. Return plain rows only: course | weighted points earned so far | final weight percent. Preserve supplied quantities exactly. Do not guess missing values; list questions separately. Do not calculate or add advice. I will check every row before pasting into the local tool.

Accepted schema: course | weighted points earned so far | final weight percent. No AI response is executed as code.

Walk three labelled examples

First reading. The invented sample Biology | 48 | 40 uses desired overall course grade percent = 70. The displayed highest required final score is 55.00000 required final score percent. Follow the row note back to the measurements and conversion rather than treating the headline number as a recommendation. The sample is deliberately concrete so the reader can reproduce the arithmetic by hand.

Changed assumption. The alternate input Seminar | 62 | 25 produces 32.00000 required final score percent for the displayed summary. Compare it with the first reading to see which entered quantity moves the result. In a real plan, change only the assumption that has a traceable source; do not tune a value just to make a row pass.

Boundary case. With Exact maximum | 50 | 20 and the same setting, the worked result is 100.00000 required final score percent. This case shows how the arithmetic behaves at a useful edge, not that the underlying process has been measured or verified. Check the boundary statement beside the result and confirm any consequential input with the responsible person before acting.
