What this replaces
Flashcard apps let you write unlimited cards and then punish you with the review queue. This totals the chapter against the number you can actually get through, so a chapter that needs ninety cards is split before you have written them.

The four passes
Collect the smallest useful input
Your review budget on the first line, then one section per line with its card count.
Let the deck total them
Each section is counted and the final row is the chapter against the budget.
Split the chapter if it is over
Two sittings of forty beats one abandoned deck of ninety.
Cut cards from the densest section
Density often means you are testing recall of prose, not of facts.
