Find the Swaps Hidden in Your Grocery Receipt
The grocery bill reads like one number, but it's actually a list of decisions you already made — some of which are quietly overpriced. This reads the receipt lines, flags the premium and high-waste items, and adds up what swapping them is worth. Local only; your receipt never leaves the tab.

The workflow
Paste the receipt lines, not the photo
Type or copy each line as 'item price' — 'brand yogurt 6.99'. The tool reads the price, so keep the number on the line. Ten to thirty lines is plenty.
Read the flags as hypotheses, not verdicts
A flagged line means the item is in a swappable category and priced above its generic floor — not that your brand is wrong. The swap is optional; the flag is just where the money is.
Check the swap total against the whole bill
The savings are an estimate (about 40% of the flagged items' price), stated as an estimate. If the total matters to you, one swap a week is enough to see it on the next receipt.
Run the waste plan for the items you actually waste
The tool builds a short plan from the perishable lines — buy less, freeze more, cook the oldest first. The waste you stop is savings that never shows up as a line item.
Worked example
Sample: a 12-line receipt Lines 12 Flagged 4 (brand cereal, name-brand milk, pre-cut fruit, bottled dressing) Swap estimate $6.40 saved (about 40% of the flagged items) Waste plan fruit first, freeze the bread, milk into the freezer Uploaded nothing — read in the tab
Numbers above are sample data produced by the tool's own pre-loaded example, run in the browser — not averages or measured benchmarks.
What breaks this
Pasting the photo does nothing — the tool reads text, so copy the lines. Treating the savings as cash in hand is the trap: they're an estimate until you actually swap. Flagging a staple you genuinely prefer is fine — the point is knowing what the preference costs, not abolishing it. Keep the swaps you'll actually keep.
Try it now
A twelve-line receipt is loaded and flagged. Paste your own lines and watch the swap total re-add.
Open the receipt analyser →Go deeper: the shopping list
The swap flags are free forever. The $4 one-time tier adds:
- Printable shopping list — your receipt's flagged swaps turned into a list — estimate: ~10 min saved versus rewriting it at the store.
- Saved receipt history — keep up to 20 receipts in this browser — estimate: ~15 min saved per month of comparing trips.
- Month-over-month total — your own receipts compared — estimate: ~8 min saved of adding it up by hand.
