interview cue cards

Turn a Job Post Into Interview Practice Cards

You already have the stories — the blank is the moment the question is asked. This reads the posting for the skills it's really asking about, turns them into likely questions, and pairs each with one of your stories on a STAR card. Local only; nothing leaves the tab.

The workflow

  1. Paste the posting, not the title

The full text is what feeds the question deriver — 'stakeholder management' and 'tight deadlines' become different questions than 'communication'. The keywords are the questions in disguise.

  2. List your stories one per line

Each story is a situation you lived: 'the time we shipped early', 'the angry customer I turned around'. You need fewer stories than you think — one good story answers several questions.

  3. Read the card as a STAR frame, not a script

Situation, Task, Action, Result — the card holds the order. You don't memorise the words; you memorise the order, so the story comes out the same every time it's asked.

  4. Say it out loud once per card

Reading the cards is not practice; speaking them is. Two minutes per card, out loud, is the difference between having a story and delivering one.

Worked example

Sample: a PM posting with three skills
  Keywords stakeholder, deadline, launch
  Questions 3 (one per keyword)
  Stories 3, matched one-to-one
  Cards STAR frame on each
Uploaded nothing — built in the tab

Numbers above are sample data produced by the tool's own pre-loaded example, run in the browser — not averages or measured benchmarks.

What breaks this

Pasting only the title gives the deriver one word — paste the body. Listing stories as 'the time I did good work' gives the mapper nothing to work with; name the concrete moment. Rehearsing silently is the trap — the cards work when you say them out loud. Two minutes each, and the room will feel familiar.
