How to work the swatch sett
Use the yarn, needles and stitch pattern intended for the project. Count across a central section rather than the curled edge and scale the result to ten centimetres.
Enter the number of stitches in one horizontal pattern repeat. The output excludes selvage stitches, seams and shaping; add those only according to the actual pattern.
Multiply target centimetres by stitches per ten centimetres, divide by ten and round to the nearest repeat, with halves rounded up. A 24 cm panel yields 54 stitches in six-stitch repeats.
The row note converts the rounded count back to centimetres. Make a small test piece before committing to a garment; construction and ease cannot be inferred from width alone.
