How to work the typesetter galley
Enter the actual page count and body font size for each section. Separate sections with different type sizes instead of averaging a cover and dense body text.
This approximation assumes unchanged paper size, margins, font proportions and line-spacing ratio. Images, tables and deliberate page breaks are outside the model.
Multiply pages by the square of new points divided by old points, then round each section up. Six pages at twelve points become an estimated fourteen pages at eighteen points.
Compare its real page count and readability with the estimate. Ask the intended reader about size and spacing; do not shrink the type to rescue an arbitrary paper budget.
