A driving-school checklist lists the requirements without durations, so the theory test and the motorway lesson look equally urgent and get booked in the wrong order. Counting each requirement back from the test date puts them in sequence and shows which one has already run out of time.

Booking the practical test before the theory is passed
In most systems the practical cannot be booked without a valid theory certificate, and a test date booked in hope is a fee lost.
Counting supervised hours in the last month
Hours that have to be logged and signed off take weeks, and a supervisor who is away in December does not help in February. Start the log on day one.
Assuming lesson availability matches the plan
An instructor with a six-week waiting list cannot deliver ten lessons in three. Ask for the diary before you write the dates.
