Move House Without Missing an Address Change — Free

Address changes fail in the same way every time: the important ones get done, and one gets missed for eleven months — usually the licence, the insurer or the pension. Put every organisation on one ruled index card with a date against it, and the move stops depending on memory.

The proof surface

Free path: the card computes locally in the browser with no key and no account. Where an AI step helps, any free chat assistant works — Google AI Studio's free tier and Groq's free tier were both no-card and rate-limited when this page was reviewed on 2026-09-13 (limits change; check before you rely on them).

Why the flat version breaks

A moving checklist lists tasks; addresses belong to organisations, and each one has its own form, its own lead time and sometimes its own charge. Making the organisation the row — with the date you actually filed the change — is what turns a checklist into a record that can be checked months later.

How to work the card in four passes

Write every organisation, including the ones you have not heard from in years

Banks, employers, insurers, utilities, licences, pensions, subscriptions, schools, the doctor. The row you leave out is the one that keeps writing to the old address, and it is almost always a licence or a pension.

Give each row an owner and a date

Partners, flatmates and family members can each carry rows, and the paid copy prints the name beside the organisation. An undated row is labelled as decoration because that is what it is.

Do insurance and licences first

Both can be invalidated by an address that no longer matches, and both cost money when something happens in the gap. The card's overdue check puts them back on top the moment their dates pass.

Mark a row finished when you have confirmation, not when you send the form

An address change is complete when the organisation acknowledges it. Keeping the confirmation email or letter with the card is what settles an argument with a utility company six months later.

SAMPLE DATA, NOT A VERIFIED CLAIM: Move 1 Oct 2026 · ten organisations · insurance 28 Sep · redirection 30 Sep · pension 8 Oct. Replace these values with your own source before you rely on anything.

What breaks first

Only doing the organisations that bill you

Pension providers, licensing bodies and registries rarely bill you monthly and are exactly the ones that stay wrong for a year. If they hold your address, they get a row.

Marking rows done when the form is posted

Posted is not changed. An insurer that never received the update still holds the old address, and that is the version that decides a claim.

Discarding the card after the move

The card is a record of what you told whom and when. Keep it for a year — it is the reference when the one letter finally arrives at the old place.

Boundary: This is a checklist for your own administration. Organisations set their own evidence requirements and deadlines, and some changes carry legal consequences — confirm each one with the organisation itself and keep the confirmation.
