Check a Ramp Against Its Intended Slope — Free
A ramp reads gentle until you divide rise by run. Compute each run’s real 1-in ratio, compare it with the target you were given, and see the steepest one first.
The proof surface
Event planning checks list access gaps qualitatively. This does the geometry: rise over run per ramp section, expressed as the 1-in-N figure you can compare with a brief or drawing.
Why the flat version breaks
Measuring along the sloped surface
Run is horizontal; the hypotenuse overstates it.
Judging by eye
A 1-in-12 and a 1-in-10 look alike from the top.
Calling one ratio accessible
Landing, width, surface and handrails all matter too.
How to work the slope inclinometer
Millimetres vertically and horizontally along the slope’s footprint, not along its surface. The entrance rises 150 mm over 2,100 mm of run.
A target of 12 means one unit of rise per twelve of run. Use the figure from your brief, drawing or authority — the sample is illustrative, and required ratios differ by jurisdiction and context.
Run divided by rise: 2,100 over 150 achieves 1-in-14, gentler than the 1-in-12 target. The stage step achieves 1-in-7.5, steeper than target and flagged.
The summary reports the smallest ratio because the smallest number is the steepest ramp. A zero rise cannot form a ratio and is rejected; check landing lengths, surfaces and handrails separately — slope is one property of a ramp, not its safety certificate.
What the slope inclinometer replaces
| Question | Before | Visible working |
|---|---|---|
| Measuring along the sloped surface | Run is horizontal; the hypotenuse overstates it. | Enter the target as 1-in-N |
| Judging by eye | A 1-in-12 and a 1-in-10 look alike from the top. | Compute the achieved ratio per run |
| Calling one ratio accessible | Landing, width, surface and handrails all matter too. | Read the steepest run as the headline |

Input is processed locally and a draft is saved automatically in this browser profile when storage is available. Reset to sample clears that draft; Pro history has its own clear button. A state link encodes your inputs in its URL: share only non-sensitive rows. Browser history, clipboard and anyone receiving the link may retain it. Optional AI use below leaves this device; it is not required.
Geometric arithmetic on measurements you take. Not a building-code, compliance or safety certification; required slopes vary by jurisdiction — confirm with the responsible authority or an access professional.
Data note: Everything runs in this browser tab on the slope inclinometer: your ramp run | rise mm | run length mm stays on this device, nothing is uploaded, and the reading is rebuilt only when you press run.
Go deeper: the companion app files the same reading as a climbing rung ladder
The article demo above runs without limits. The companion app keeps a local history, exports the rows as CSV, prints the slope inclinometer reading, and holds your drafts on this device — one free run, then $ 4 one-time for the layer that keeps filing.
The slope inclinometer reading is complete for free. The optional $4 layer adds print, row CSV and the last five local reading summaries; it does not add hidden answers. Checkout is not configured yet; the article demo remains unlimited.

What this is built on
- Method: Run divided by rise: 2,100 over 150 achieves 1-in-14, gentler than the 1-in-12 target. The stage step achieves 1-in-7.5, steeper than target and flagged.
- All sample records are invented examples. The app does not fetch measurements, policies, files or personal records.
- Google’s official pricing page, fetched 2026-09-28, lists free-tier access including AI Studio. Optional formatting only; limits and availability can change. Free-tier content may be used to improve products. Never paste private records there.
Before: Run is horizontal; the hypotenuse overstates it. After: the slope inclinometer shows the working beside each named row so the reader can change the assumption and inspect the consequence.
Optional AI formatting, not calculation
For this slope inclinometer, use the free AI Studio interface only if available to you, with no paid API key. Manual entry completes the same workflow for free. Supply only fictional or non-sensitive notes. Review its output against the source; never paste unresolved questions into the numeric rows.
Format my non-sensitive notes for a slope inclinometer. Return plain rows only: ramp run | rise mm | run length mm. Preserve supplied quantities exactly. Do not guess missing values; list questions separately. Do not calculate or add advice. I will check every row before pasting into the local tool.
Accepted schema: ramp run | rise mm | run length mm. No AI response is executed as code.
