Split Weekly Practice Time Across a Repertoire

One piece gets the whole session and the rest of the repertoire quietly rusts.

What this guide helps you do

Turn weekly practice minutes, a piece count, and a practice-day count into time per piece per week and per day.

Who this guide is for

Musicians, dancers, and other performers balancing more than one piece.

Use the source document or official route that applies to your situation. This guide does not contact another person or verify external information.

Steps

  1. Total the week

Write the practice minutes you can protect in a normal week.

  2. Count the pieces

Count the pieces you want to keep alive. Include the one you avoid.

  3. Count the days

Count the days you will actually practise. Rest days do not carry time.

  4. Divide by the pieces

Divide the weekly minutes by the pieces. That is the time each piece gets.

  5. Divide by the days

Divide the piece time by the practice days. If it is under five minutes, cut the piece count.

Worked example

With 240 minutes a week across 4 pieces over 6 days, each piece gets 60.0 minutes a week and 10.0 minutes a day, and the block holds 960 minutes.

Use your own source and details. The example is not a record about a real person or organization.
