A twenty-percent match of the twenty-five-hundred-dollar reading grant is five hundred; its six hundred entered match has no shortfall. The headline adds the positive gaps only, so the second grant’s hundred-dollar surplus does not cover the first grant unless the funder actually allows that transfer. Increasing the arts entry to seventeen hundred removes its modeled gap. Both lines now have zero dollars still needed, although each has a surplus against the simple percentage. This is a change in confirmed match input, not evidence that donations arrived. Only enter funds or in-kind value the funder has explicitly accepted as eligible under the actual award. A pledge, volunteer hour or another restricted grant may not count simply because it has a dollar figure.

Exact sixteen-hundred and five-hundred match amounts meet the entered twenty-percent-of-grant rule with no surplus. That arithmetic differs from twenty percent of total project cost: a grant plus its twenty-percent-of-grant match makes the match one-sixth of the combined total, not one-fifth. The edge case makes the denominator visible. It cannot choose which denominator the award means; ambiguous wording needs written clarification from the funder.
