Lay Out Explicit Front and Back Page Pairs for Folded Booklet Signatures — Free
Knowing how many sheets a zine needs does not tell you which page goes opposite page one. Keep the logical front/back pairs and every padded blank visible before testing a printer's folding convention.
The proof surface
Signature counters give sheet quantities. This packet emits the actual page-pair order for separately folded signatures, with content numbering and named blanks. It does not hide the imposition map behind the filing layer or pretend to know a printer driver.

Sample, not your facts: Illustrative inputs: Cedar zine | 18 | 1; Birch booklet | 8 | 101. Pages per independently folded signature = 16. Padded blank positions across independent booklets: 22 blank positions. All records are invented.
Before using the fold-order packet
The model treats each signature as an independently folded stack containing a multiple of four logical page positions. It arranges outer-to-inner sheets, left-to-right logical pairs: front [last, first], back [second,second-last], then moves inward by two positions per side. The last signature is padded to the chosen signature size, not shrunk to a different size. Content page labels increase from the supplied positive first number. No creep, trim, bleed, paper thickness, binding allowance or printer rotation is modeled. One booklet may contain at most 512 content pages and the run at most 4,096 padded positions, keeping the complete free pair list bounded. A driver-specific print-ready file is not generated.
Why the flat version breaks
Using ordinary consecutive pairs
Pages [1,2] and [3,4] are reading order, not the outer front/back arrangement of a folded booklet. The imposition map deliberately pairs opposite ends of the signature. Check the logical sheet map with a folded mock-up rather than treating page sequence as print sequence.
Treating blanks as page zero or skipped positions
Padding positions occupy physical space even when they contain no printed content. Omitting them shifts pair locations and can reorder the booklet. The packet names them blank and keeps their positions in every front/back pair; a first label of 101 changes labels, not the number of physical positions.
Assuming the map knows a duplex printer
Feed direction and short-edge or long-edge flipping depend on the actual printer and layout. The model supplies logical pairs only. A small physical test and a technician's advice are necessary before exporting a production layout with rotation, trim and binding allowances.
How to work the fold-order packet
Choose one signature and numbering convention
Confirm that the work is independently folded signatures rather than a single differently assembled stack. Enter the number of logical content pages and the first content-page label. Covers already included in that count stay content pages; separate covers need a separate reviewed production plan. Page labels need not begin at one, but they must be consecutive in this model.
Use a multiple-of-four signature size
Choose a whole signature size from four through sixty-four, divisible by four. The last signature receives named blank positions until it reaches that size. Larger signatures are not automatically better: paper, binding and creep constraints require production judgment. The parser checks bounded output size before generating a potentially long pair list.
Pair from the outside inward
For each signature, place its last logical position opposite its first on the front of the outer sheet, then its second opposite its second-last on the back. Move the boundaries inward by two positions and repeat. Resolve a position beyond the content count as blank. Keep every sheet's signature, front and back pairs in the free notes so the map can be checked independently.
Run a small physical folding test
Mark a four-page test with front/back arrows, print using the intended driver, fold and inspect it. Ask a print technician about duplex flip, feed direction, creep and binding allowances before a production run. The packet's logical pairs cannot determine how a particular machine rotates the back side; do not feed a large job based on this model alone.

Go deeper: the companion app files the same reading as a stapled evidence packet
The article demo above runs without limits. The companion app keeps a local history, exports the rows as CSV, prints the fold-order packet reading, and holds your drafts on this device — one complete free app run; the proposed $4 one-time filing layer is not for sale.
The fold-order packet answer stays complete for free. The proposed $4 one-time filing layer adds row CSV, print and five local reading summaries, not hidden answers. Checkout is unavailable; the article demo remains unlimited.

Before: a sheet count left page placement to guesswork. After: every outer-to-inner sheet has explicit front/back content pairs and named blanks.
Cedar needs two sixteen-position signatures for eighteen content pages, leaving fourteen named blanks in the second. Birch needs one signature for eight pages, leaving eight blanks. Total blank positions are twenty-two. Cedar's first outer sheet pairs front [16,1] and back [2,15]; the next pairs [14,3] and [4,13]. Birch uses its own numbering starting at 101. The full pair list, including blank locations, appears in the free reading.
Each twelve-page booklet fills one sixteen-position signature with four blanks. The total is eight blank positions, but their visible content numbers differ because Mini begins at 51. Numbering is a label for existing content, not a command to add fifty unused pages. Every content number appears once across the declared fronts and backs, and blank positions are explicitly marked blank rather than assigned page zero.
Sixteen content pages exactly fill one sixteen-position signature, so there are no blanks. The outer pair is front [16,1], back [2,15], progressing inward until the center pair. This is a declared logical page arrangement, not a guarantee of a printer's duplex orientation. A physical four-page test is still needed to verify feed, flip and folding behavior.

Manual entry completes this fold-order packet for free without signup. If available to you, the free AI Studio interface linked in the sources may format fictional or non-sensitive notes; external access may require an account. No API key or AI call is built into this tool. Free-tier content may be used to improve products. Review each cell and transcribe it to the labeled row schema; do not paste the JSON object into the row box.
Format only these fictional or non-sensitive notes for a fold-order packet. Return strict JSON shaped as {"rows": [{"label": "string", "cells": ["string", "string"]}], "setting": "string"}. The columns are Booklet code | content pages | first content page number; the setting is Pages per independently folded signature. Keep all supplied strings and quantities exactly; do not calculate, infer missing entries, invent dates or add advice. If any required value is missing, return an empty rows array and ask me for it separately. I will verify every cell against my source and manually transcribe rows using vertical bars before running the local calculator.
An AI response is not executed, fetched or trusted as a result. Missing values remain questions; the strict local parser checks the rows you actually enter.
